Southeast Asia Travels
THAILAND, 2007
I have just begun a blog for my travels through Thailand. I leave for Southeast Asia on November 23, 2007. The opening for the ceramic exhibit "A Passion for Fire" is Friday, November 30th, 2007. Stay posted for details.
Greetings Brenda. An absolute pleasure meeting you at the Great Gulf Coast Art Show. This is just a quick line to wish you all the very best for the exhibition and for exciting and interesting times in Thailand. I still wish you had taken me with you! I shall watch your blog for progress. Peter D.
I have been working as a ceramic artist for more than 15 years.
I love clay and the many stages it goes through from the start of my idea to its completion. At first touch it's pliable and soft in my hands. As it dries, I can alter, carve and polish it, making it resonate with my voice.
But it doesn't stop there, the second life of clay is in the firing. This is always exhilarating, and sometimes frustrating! Fire is one of the great forces and mysteries in the world. As it interacts with my claywork, the dialogue continues, but with a much less wieldy partner. I move with the rhythm of the flame, feed it or starve it as I see fit and then wait to see if our collaboration matches my vision.
I am a constant student of surrender and surprise.
